As a student ambassador for UMKC’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences I have had the opportunity to develop promotional materials for many of their events and departments.
Marketing Materials
For an open house I was asked to create a post card and one pager in order to promote the event to prospective students. I was told to use the view book as a guide but other wise had creative freedom. I took pictures for the background, hand-lettered to make the “arts” distinctive and referenced UMKC’s brand kit in order to choose colors and typefaces. Through this process I became familiar with following a guide, receiving feedback from my manager and MCOM, UMKC’s branding and marketing team, who approved the design. The final design was mailed to students.

I was asked to put together a degree sheet for the Art History department at UMKC. The degree sheet was to be handed out at events to students.
For this project I was given a reference to work from. I was asked to make it resemble UMKC’s program sheets. Using them as inspiration I drafted up a degree sheet that was then sent to the department head for review. After incorporating their feedback the sheet was approved and printed.

During the time I was a student ambassador the school redid their branding. As such they needed to redo some of the one sheets they give out to students. I was asked to review the new branding and create a one sheet that fit within its image to be used for marketing materials.
SHSS T-Shirt
I had the opportunity to redesign the schools T-shirts. The department wanted something that represented Kansas City, so I created a skyline outline of the city.
SHSS Department Stickers
As branding was being updated in the school there was a desire to have new department stickers made. Through this I learned how to make interesting designs with limited colors and materials as I was limited to only two colors.

The last project I had the privilege of completing for them was to redo their old promotional banners. Using the new branding and the old banners as a reference I created two banner designs. While completing this project I learned about spot colors as well as how to package a file to be sent off to a retailer for print.
